MEMORY OF "SOVIET" GREEKS





From 1929 to 1949 all Greeks from Krasnodar (Russia),  were repressed by stalinist political police. Three times - on national basis.

In 1930-1933, dozens of Greek families were  deported to Kazakhstan, were died hundreds of them.
In 1937-1938, during the "Greek operation" of the NKVD (KGB after Second World War)  about 5,000 Greeks were arrested. 90% of them were shot. Most of the sentences were enforced in the city of Krasnodar. Several hundred people were sent in the camps, from which many never returned

In 1942, nearly 6,000 Greeks were deported to Kazakhstan and the Krasnoyarsk Territory

In 1949 over 8000 Greeks were deported to Kazakhstan.



One year ago, 26 of march, in Krasnodar was inaugurated the first Memorial to the greek victims of Stalinism.
